When I first started collecting knives, for the second time, in 1988, I was buying anything that caught my attention.

The first counterfeit I ever bought was made exactly like that, except the handles were more green than brown, but it had that same stamp.

Let me ask this question. Where does everyone think the tang stamp dies for stamps like this and the fake Case Tested XX, Case Brothers, Case Bradford, and all the other fake old vintage brand name stamps from other companies come from? Old worn or stolen original dies that were taken home by an employee or picked out of the garbage dumpster when the company threw them away, or is there someone making new current dies for these old brand name tang stamps? I know some of the fake tang stamps are better than others but there has to be some interesting answer to these questions.

There are cottage industries in Japan and China turning out counterfeit knives like nobody's business.

They certainly have the wherewithall to produce duplicate stamps.

And, they're doing it with the full consent of their governments, apparently.

Go figure. Anything to boost one's economy.

I have no doubt the guys in our model shop could turn out duplicate stamps for any maker you cared to mention. Since they are not knife collectors, if someone asked them to do it they wouldn't even know they were doing something wrong.

I agree with trail 100%. There are companies online that would make the stamp for you
without blinking an eye.

The tang from a broken blade with the origional stamp can be used on an EDM machine
to duplicate an EXACT copy!
A VARY EASY process...

There are even EDM machines in the shops at the machinists schools!!!!
Easy access to the unsuspecting student. It's nothing more than a class project
for them.

I could take a stamped tang to the local tech school and ask ANY student to make
me a stamp on the EDM! FREE of charge!!! ::nod::

There are 3 Cattaraugus knives on e-bay now that have me worried. Bone is not right and nail pulls look wrong. What do you think?
