Re: BAD KA-BAR info on title page
I know Paul Tooj?? Ka-Bars historian spent most of the weekend at Gunsils table at the last Case show. I am pretty sure he learned a lot from Gene and they talked about doing a book, which I would love to see!

I think these are chinese fishermans knives, for repairing nets. The tail is used like a marlin spike to untie knots.

This thread keeps getting better and better! Roger, what do you know about the North America shield? I always figured it was used in the transition to Olean, but I am just guessing.

Tremendous knife Roger! I only saw a small part of your collection at the Queen show, and that small part constitutes one of the best collections I know of!

You are finding some great history Dave. I really like that old Leonard. It reminds me of an old, old Sheffield knife.
Wasn't Kesmodel a fancy bowie knife maker?
That bullhead/moose, whatever you want to call it is a great knife, whoever made it.

That is a cool story and a great knife! I am glad you have it. I wish my memory was better, but wasn't there a later leather ringed handle Wade & Butcher knife with the Manitou name? I did a search, and found it in the 4th paragraph down. http://www.wkfinetools.com/hUK/Butcher/history/hReview/07...

I am on Kathy's PC now, and found some more pics. This eating set, has a different box yet, than Monks or MB's. The box is in sad shape, and the knife is great except for a chip that must have been from being dropped.

Re: Vintage Union Cutlery Co. KA-BAR Knives
Another one of my favorites. Ray posted a nicer stag version already.
I ran across this picture, and Kathy will be mad that I posted it, but she is holding this knife, so I have to post it!
This was when we were dating. How could anyone not pursue a girl that looks this good, AND likes knives?

Mason is correct. You see their guns often but I don't recall seeing a knife. Likely Sheffield made. They contracted everything. The guns are high quality B Birmingham made usually.

Re: .22 split brass?
Treefarmer, one of those guns has an oversize chamber, and none of the guns would have been cut that way from the factory, so the most likely scenario, is the Ruger since most of them came as convertibles. The .22LR is a heeled bullet, .002 smaller than the magnum bullet, and the same size as the ca...

Re: .22 split brass?
I would bet the bulges and splits came from his having the .22 magnum cylinder in the Ruger. Misfires happen usually from the priming compound getting knocked loose inside the rim. Usually not the manufacturers fault, but cases or cartons being dropped on a hard floor.

I will second what Elvis said. We spent a lot of time with Bob(Elvis) and Steve (Knifaholic) at the Case show, and they are both a pleasure to be around. Knowledgeable, fair realistic prices, and a great senses of humor. I hope you guys are coming to the Queen show??
