Re: Do misprints on a knife add rarity or value???
Errors or mistakes generally will only add to value if a rare or valuable article is involved in the first place. The most important thing to remember is that a mistake is just that...a mistake or error. Production errors are generally considered to be flaws and only increase in value if there's a l...

Re: 18c or early 19c knife...
One reason that some of the comments may have been made is that the first eBay seller referenced is well known for selling stories that often have little to do with the actual object he's selling. He has a long history of very broad definitions for words like "indian, trade, bowie, old, civil w...

Re: History of Chicago Cutlery pocket knives
As luck would have it, I bought a collection of a 100 or so knives from the 1980's today and there was a P7 in the original box. It's a Medallion series with brushed nickel silver bolsters and great looking wood. The guy had the knives separated into boxes with the prices he was asking. That knife w...

Re: What's your current collective poison?
I'm pretty selective...if it's got a blade, is well-made, and looks nice, then it seems I just gotta have it. ::dang:: I know...I've got a problem. I even designed my own 12-step program, although it's now at many thousands of steps. Early on I figured if I just bought a dozen knives, I'd surely fin...

I've had the same knife with various markings and unmarked as well. Most of the ones I've had were made in Japan and the most popular marking was Kiffe.

There's always a few on eBay, although prices have gotten pretty high.
Just a note on an above reply: Brass bolsters do not necessarily mean a U.S. made version and vice versa. In fact, the only Japanese made versions I've personally owned have all had brass bolsters.

I have a couple that are very similar and mine are both from Henckels. Actually, I think one or even both are still in their original boxes. I'll have to dig them out and check.

Definitely looks like a replaced blade to me.
Is it valuable? Absolutely...your Grandmother gave it to you, and maybe one day you'll be able to pass it on to one of your kids or another family member.

Most of these that I've seen originated in Thailand. Unfortunately, that's about all I have to offer on them.

Yep...they were often included on sailor's knives and knives that would likely see use over water.Iron Hoarder wrote:The copper shackle is also original to the knife as well.

The Carl Wusthof knife likely has celluloid scales as ivory does not shrink. The photos appear to show some slight shrinkage at the bolsters, which is common for celluloid. These scales are often called "French Ivory".

2: There was absolutely NO recourse for seller's to gain any recourse whatsoever. It was quickly becoming a buyer's only market. They do not treat seller well at all. If you've never sold on ebay you won't understand what I'm talking about. The odds are stacked in favor of the buyer and sellers hav...

Re: Fake Case Blue Scroll?
They are both authentic. In 1976-1977 Case changed the tooling for the 33 pattern from the old style 33 to the new style 033. They did this across the board, the 6233 became the 62033, the 6333 became the 63033, etc. Production of the blue scroll stags spanned this time frame so a few of the 33 pat...

Fake Case Blue Scroll?
Has anyone seen any fakes from Case's Blue Scroll series? These two examples of the same pattern show some significant differences, including the pattern number itself. One is even substantially larger and heavier. I was under the impression that the Blue Scroll knives were a one-year issue and I wo...

Here's a few of mine: DSCN0665.JPG Roush, in the second/middle picture, the first 3 lines of knives laying verticle, the swingguard in the first row lower left bottom, it is the 4th knife from the end. Boker has done lots of contract work over the years and I'm pretty sure they made at least some of the Buck Creek and Bear & Bull knives. Looks like this was a knife made to promote a couple of the brands they made.

Re: Rehandled 10 dot?
So mismatched stag handles are more the norm rather than the exception. Ditto even more so for bone. This is one of the hardest points to ever get across to collectors. From my perspective matched stag seems to be more of a recent thing, primarily sales hype in the collector market. When knives wer...

Hopefully, for the buyer's sake, he asks for and receives a refund after returning the knife. Re: Isn't this one of the Chinese Case knockoffs?
It's fairly obvious from most of the responses that this is an exercise in futility for me, as folks who don't know me are going to read into this what they want. I don't want to come across as hostile, but I really don't have the time or inclination to engage in a back in forth with those who have ...
