Re: Unusual Geo. Schrade Wire Knife
Good info! I thought it was brass, but it does look like copper.

Unusual Geo. Schrade Wire Knife
IMG_2689.jpeg A friend recently gave me one of the old Geo. Schrade wite knives and while I have a few of them, this one has a brass blade. I’m wondering if it might have been a prototype. I can’t think of any good reason for a brass blade except that it might have been an easy way to make a blade ...

Millern,
Usually that slight discoloration can be buffed out if you have a buffer and some buffing rouge.

Re: Buffalo Horn handle question
Glad to help Mike. There was too much of that scale missing because of the horn separating, so a replacement just seemed to make sense.

Re: Buffalo Horn handle question
Mike,
Bill has some good suggestions. Another option is to send it back to me and I'll take care of it. No charge except postage. Horn grows in layers and sometimes those layers can separate. It's not a common problem, but it does happen. Let me know if you need my address.

KaBar 1183 Blade Needed
I have a guy that needs a new (or decent) blade for a KaBar 11833. It a large liner lock about the size of your typical folding hunter. Thanks!

1980’s Cheetah spring
Hi folks,
I’m needing the back part of a Case Cheetah backspring for a repair job I’m working on. I know that the newer ones (2002-present) won’t work because of a tooling change for the newer ones, but anything older should work. Can you help a brother out? Thanks!

Good idea Mike. From the pics, the old KK looks like the closest match so far, but if a few more oldies are posted we might find out for sure what factory they originally came from.

Re: GEC 66 mink skinner IMPROVED Muskrat by Elvis
Here are three oldies that I dug out of my collection that still have nice scales. From top to bottom, they're Camco, Robeson, and Keen Kutter. I'm not sure the bone on the OP knife is a perfect match for any of these, but at least they're nice for a comparative look.

Because he is the King! Not really, but thanks. I just used it as an easy forum handle to get approved on my first forum years ago and stuck with it. I never even met that dead, rich guy that goes by the same name. Did he like knives too? Seriously, thanks for all the kind words and I'm really glad...

Re: Sweet Baby James...."You've Got A Friend"
My apologies for not seeing this thread sooner Tom, but I really didn't expect it. It's been a real pleasure working with you on the Remington Scout Knives that are planned to be on exhibit at the Boy Scout Museum and this one just seemed like a natural way to thank you for letting me help. The fact...

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! Such thoughtfulness is just a small part of what makes AAPK a great place to hang out, make friends and share knife knowledge which I've come to enjoy so much over the years. Great people such as yourselves make for a great forum and AAPK is the best. Thanks a...

Re: Antique Bone - A Lucky Find
Yes Bob, I've often wondered why someone hasn't tried to produce these today myself. Indeed Mike. I won't be putting these on just any knife that rolls around. They may never be available again.

Antique Bone - A Lucky Find
Over the years I've had to turn down many requests for repair for a lack of being able to match the old jigging and colors of a lot of the antique bone we see on so many knives. I recently stumbled across someone with a nice stash of these old beauties and since he specializes in automatic knife rep...

Re: Case XX Help
The only thing I would question is whether or not nickel-silver pins were standard on knives produced during that period. I thought brass was the standard pin material during the XX Era.

Elvis it seems like you're a regular rock star around here  Not so much. I own two guitars, but can't play well at all. ::dang:: Actually I was very worried if I could keep doing knife work at all for quite a while. I had some pinched nerves going to my right hand that were really holding me b...

Re: Shock Wood? What the................
Since opinions are cheap, I've got one. I don't like it, and it looks like it's an effort to use pieces that weren't right for normal production somehow, and combine them with scraps. You can stabilize anything. In fact, this one has stabilized kangaroo poop for handles (really!). Nope, don't like i...

Just like mine Dimitri and a fine example. I didn't know they existed either Outkast, but I like it. I've never seen one of the Case Dog Groomers either, but sure would like to.

Re: Remington Scout Bail Needed
My first look at this post, but per our conversations you know that I just picked up an RS3333 for our project just to use for parts. I'll get the bail (and anything else he needs) in the mail to Glenn as soon as I talk to him and figure out what I can send to best help.
