Picked this little quill knife up on e-bay recently. Edward Barnes & Sons, 1853-65. The pearl is better than my pic shows and has half-stop and great snap . Best of all, got it for $35. Slim

Scott, I have a Kutmaster with a V under the stamp and a faint etch 'vanadium steel' so maybe it does as bdev said indicate type of steel. Still doesn't answer your question though does it. Excuse poor pics had to use flash. Slim

Re: E-Bay bidding
Thanks for the tips fellas. I think I was probably just slow on the draw, along with not making a high enough max bid. That's what I get for trying to steal. It was a Chas A Langbein baloon whittler with typographer's punch. Levine's shows one marked William Langbein , Charles son, in the special pu...

E-Bay bidding
O.K., I gotta ask this from some of you who may bid on e-bay frequently. I was bidding on a knife and had high bid up till about 47 seconds left when I was out bid. I immediatly went to increase bid and when I went to enter an amount higher, my screen started freakin' out, blinking on and off and do...

Yep fellas, as fake as you can get. I was embarrased to open all the blades, one if the pen blades is convex on one side and hollow ground on the other. Sorta like maybe a spoon pen. But heck, everybody knows a Tested congress can be worth thousands I've learned some since then.Slim
