Re: Alfred Wililams Horsemans/Coachman Sheffield England Knife

It's a nice knife. England on the stamp dates it 1891 or after and these were pretty much out production by WWI. So, made circa 1900 give or take a decade.

Nice. Looks like a sheepsfoot blade which was common for sailors' knives and consistent with the nautical theme engraving. :-)

Re: Old Pruning and Horticultural Knives

Beautiful knife FRJ. Looks like Sheffield made. From the photo... Integral liners and bolster? Looks like a hand forged spring. Does the spring get thinner and wrap around the butt end? Tang square and flush with bolsters.

Re: Vintage Unmarked Folding Knives

This knife is marked Sheffield on the master blade. No maker's mark anywhere. Clearly a high quality knife made circa 1900. As you mentioned re Solingen KJ, lots of little specialist industries in Sheffield at the time. Different makers for corkscrews, scissors, button hooks, files etc supplied the ...

Interesting post KJ. I'm sure I have a few that are just marked Sheffield or Solingen but no specific maker's names. Will have a look. I always wondered why.

Re: Rodgers and Sons

Posted some time ago but at home here. These date to the early 1900s. Rodgers employees with long term service and stag and ivory stores. The employes all have 50 years plus with the company. Many started in their early teens and a few as early as 11 or 12 years of age.

The word sterling rather than hallmarks mean not British and stainless steel blades 1920s or later. That's a little more to go on anyway.
