Re: Old Henry

Wildjim, If that be the case, then Steve Coontz and Tony Watson got right on national TV and lied like rugs about it cause they plainly stated that Rough Rider was SMKW's own brand. I have also heard Steve Coontz mention on multiple occasions being involved in the development and selection of new p...

Re: Old Henry

Rough Rider is owned by Smokey Mountain Knife Works based in Sevierville, Tenn. here in the good ole U S of A of course the knives are made in the People's Republic of China. I know SMKW sells Rough Rider but are you sure they're are the designer and owner? I emailed SMKW and it seems that they do ...

A few knife collectors simply saying just buy American "will not" reverse the process! Oh I see how it is . I am one man that is all I can do !!!! You said "The fire is out! The war is over! They have won!" Not by my doing and I dont give up so easy. I refuse to own china made a...

Re: Case Quality

Case does not and has not had knives made in China. Here is a quote from John Sullivan, Marketing Director at W.R. Case & Son's Cutlery. The "sfsimm" that he refers to is someone on another forum who made the statement that Case Knives were being made in China. "We are not now, n...

Re: Case Quality

American Made means nothing to manufactures like Case and KA-BAR and BUCK these days. Productivity and how many units can be sold with an acceptable quality control standard. Quality control is a calculated acceptable failure statistic. All they want to do is sell as many as possible, so what if som...

Yeah right don't buy this because it comes from that and don't kill and eat the deer and bunnies. We should "all" look to mirror for the source of the problems within the world. Then read the Bible, Gods word, and try to do as it says! Yet all you read here is not to buy a China Made knif...

Re: Bark River Bravo 1

I picked mine up for $120 shipped, paypal new in the box. As for the Bravo 2 I would lean maybe towards a cold steel Trail Master first, for a large knife I feel the Bravo 2 might not have enough belly. I will post my review of the Bravo 1 once I get it I want to say that the Helle Eggen is not a s...

Re: Bark River Bravo 1

Good information. The Helle and Gerber LMF are two knives I considered purchasing but now considering my application I'll take them off my list : ( I like the look of the Bark River Bravo 1 and I can purchase it for $120 wholesale, but the owner of the company inspired me to never buy from them as l...

Re: Sharpening again....

A belt sander is MUCH faster, however control of the angle is even MORE critical with a belt sander because it removes so much metal in one pass. If you are off on the angle with a stone for a few passes it can usually be straightened out by correcting the angle and resharpening the blade. If your ...

Re: Sharpening again....

I'm mainly using a Klein pocket steel followed by either a Lansky gray stick or a white stick from a set of crock sticks. My buddy does most of his work with only the steel and can usually get one sharper than I can. I let him try some of the blades I could do nothing with and in a few cases he cou...

Re: Sharpening again....

You MIGHT be right that paper slicing isn't THE test. But it works for me! If it'll slice paper it'll have no problem opening clamshells or other packages. Gets through sausage skins like butter that way too. The blades I put into my pocket WILL slice paper. Those that don't measure up stay at home...

Re: What brand of knife will you most likely buy in 2010?

I'll be watching Cold Steel to see what new items they have. I mostly want a few more large camp knives in 1055 steel. Maybe a few more Rough Rider knives as they are inexpensive, great quality and get the job done for me. Practically any knife or axe that I really like or need. . . Right now I need...

Re: Sharpening again....

I am not sure that paper cutting is a confirmation of edge sharpness. Since buying some pocket knives, mostly Rough Rider at the moment. The Rough Rider knives get extremely sharp for me using a ceramic rod by hand. The edge is so smooth and sharp that shaving hair is just like a razor with no pain....

Re: my KaBar is from China

My current experiences with KA-BAR and Becker knives are poor as all had metal malformations and the exchanged items came back defective also! Anything made for them currently can only get better as their USA quality control is bad. It seems American manufacturers are cutting too many corners on mat...

Thanks for all the info guys. I'm a Retired Navy Chief, that was visiting San Diego. I spent most my time in the C-130 Community, delivering stuff for those guys on the ground with a real job (lol). I heard that when Obama went to China they gave him a tour of the Country. The first stop was to sho...

Re: Sharpening again....

I use a Paper Wheel setup or 1X30 Belt Sander only if needed then a ceramic rod. I've been able to sharpen any knife, axe, machete, Cold Steel shovel or tomahawk razor sharp using this method. I got an old (dull) Sheffield paring for 25 cents US at the flea market and sharpened it with this method, ...
