Re: Do any of us "really" know "where we came from"?
One thing to keep in mind about these DNA tests is they show what genes are expressed and in what percentages in your DNA. You could have ancestry that doesn't show up in the test because either the genes aren't expressed, there isn't enough for the tests to pick up, or the specific genetic markers ...

Re: Stockman or Trapper
Both are great patterns, but I prefer the trapper. To me a trapper feels more comfortable in my hand than a stockman. Plus the trapper is a nicer-looking pattern than the stockman in my opinion. Also I prefer wharncliffe trappers over the traditional version. I get more use out of a wharncliffe blad...

Re: Best looking traditional slip joint pattern
Here are some pictures of one of my favorites. It's a queen purple spiny oyster. I called queen and they said it was a yellow horse knife although there are no markings on it. My daughters went in together and purchased it for my 50th birthday so it is special to me. Thanks for looking. That's a be...

Re: Looking for some guidance
Look at the pictures closely, especially the last one. The screws look different. In the buyer's picture you can clearly see slots for a screwdriver. Outkast's picture doesn't seem to show any slots. If they are indeed different, either the buyer is confusing outkast's knife with another he bought o...

These two are my favorites, both because of the handle materials. I carry the Camillus occasionally while the Bannister resides in its display case.

Re: What makes a knife RARE...your opinion
I'd say the criteria is different between modern knives and vintage knives. For modern knives, number produced would be the main reason to label a particular knife as rare. But I think you could also include "hard to find" as a feature/subcategory under rare as well. What I mean by "h...

Thanks for your 2 cents, guys. ::tu:: That picture was really helpful, Jerry. I'm now thinking maybe I'll try to find another brand that uses a tougher metal than alox. I know any metal will scratch and dent, but maybe I can find one that won't show the scratches that easily. I'll probably head down...

I'm getting a Victorinox Swiss Army knife for my father, but I'd like some information about alox. The main thing I'd like to know is how durable it is. Does it scratch or ding easily? Do the different colors (red, blue, etc.) show more wear sooner than the classic silver? Any advice would be greatl...
