Re: British and Commonwealth Military Knives
Zorro do you have any date info on your Indian knife? It is the older 1095 pattern but maybe they were made later in India than UK??? Hi Steve, checked again but cannot find any marks. Flooks has a picture of one on page 212, plate 513, which is identical to mine, not much info though. ::shrug::

Re: British and Commonwealth Military Knives
Been way to long since I posted here. Been researching this, a wooden handled pattern 6363/1905, as used by the British Army from 1905 through till 1939. The early ones had horn scales, later ones had bexoid, but never wood? https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/images/forum_archives/ll292-zor...

Re: Knives with Patents
It is listed as a dog grooming blade remington patern R4733 in Stewart&Ritchie Remington knives past and present pg. 162 I've come into this one since this thread started, not a patent knife but a Brit equivalent. :) http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll292/zorrothegreyblade/100_2059.jpg Probab...

Re: Knives with Patents
Knives with patents are one of my favorite things to find. Here's a small display of mine with four German knives whose design patented in 1880. :D Reminded me of this one, only 1 3/4 in. closed. :) http://i291.photobucket.com/albums/ll292/zorrothegreyblade/100_2054cropped.jpg Merry christmas guys!...

Re: I SORBY, SHEFFIELD
This is an interesting document sent to me by a friend, the I SORBY mark gets a mention as being owned by C & J Turner, typical of the Sheffield makers merging and diversifying through the years! Contains some interesting general information too! The history and development of Robert Sorby are c...

Nice looking work Zorro. ::tu:: I like the ivory & MOP combo. The wood one is nice as well, now I can't figure out which I like the best. There is a simple elegance with the second one that I find appealing! ::drool:: Dale Young zorro has the same problem! I took him to meet Mik yesterday, (Mik...

Re: Poldi of.....Sheffield????
 I've been doing some more digging on this one, and have since discovered there was also a POLDI steel company in Austria in 1914! So possibly not Sheffield after all, but German? A German connection would also explain the Sheffield factory being closed in 1916, When Britain was at war with Ge...

Definitely! In memory of the guy who made it, and the guy who liked it enough to buy it and keep it safe in his possession. And for the benefit of those who will follow us and marvel at was achieved by their forbears.

Re: Knives with Patents
I do like that, a propper no nonsense working knife. I reckon the back of the blade could be for striking with a flint to make a fire? A very nice vintage piece! ::tu:: Here is my contribution to the thread, https://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/images/forum_archives/ll292-zorrothegreyblade-100_1909....

Poldi of.....Sheffield????
Hi guys, this is one we have owned for a while that I'd like to share with you, I had assumed it was mainland European but it turns out it was made in Sheffield, England! Made by or for Poldi steel works, Napier Street, Sheffield, the company was closed by the British government of the day on 14th J...
