Re: Scaling Up vintage designs
After printing out the design onto paper and "holding it" in my hands, I've decided putting it around the 4" closed range is a more comfortable design, at least in the first iteration. I refined some of the mechanisms and tolerances a bit (example: the tail end of the lockbar is now m...

Scaling Up vintage designs
Afternoon All. Long time no see. A week or two ago I relented and picked up a couple of the Schrade 3rd Generation knives at a very fair price. A C627, C642 and C641. I've always liked the look of the 3rd Gen knives - they were a very interesting blend of classic features and modern aesthetic. Maybe...

Re: Schrade 4" knives - Post them here.
The current state of the 4" collection. Everything is built on the same frame, all three blade configurations. Alot of fairly common finds here, but there's a couple harder to find SFO and a few vintage pieces as well ('72 milled liner 885, Jigged bone 880, gorgeous Herman WIlliams piece). I've...

I picked up one of these 885 versions about a year ago for a steal of a price. Nice example of a simple SFO from the latter years of Schrade

Re: Lake & Walker/ 641 Questions
Those L&W folders are something special. Especially the limited run. Ron Lake and Michael Walker are about as legendary as you get in modern knife circles (with Mr. Walker essentially inventing the modern liner-lock used on thousands of knives to this day, not to mention inspiring the careers of...

Re: Looking for a Anodizing Outfit
Happy to help my friend! Cerakote is relatively new, but in the last couple years I've seen the people that do it go from doing solid colors to some really amazing stuff on firearms. From my experience it really holds up well compared to all of the old coatings I was used to that just flaked off or ...

Re: Looking for a Anodizing Outfit
Sorry to hear about your loss! Anodizing aluminum is a pretty involved process, and the screws couldn't be done at all since they are likely steel Have you thought about doing Cerakote? Ceramic based firearm coating, Boatloads of color options. I've had everything from knife steels and aluminum gun ...

Re: Customized Northwoods Indian River Jack
You guys are all far to kind. I honestly think we've hit "Peak Northwoods" territory. The secondary market for most of them is really crazy. Chalk it up to the resurgence of slipjoint popularity. This one was pretty, but it doesn't count, since it's not in original condition. One of my Ins...

Customized Northwoods Indian River Jack
Re-organizing some display cases, and I decided to let this one go to make some room. Started life as a 1095 Scagel pull Indian River jack, back at the end of Dave Shirley's ownership of the Northwoods name (2008). I bought this sight unseen, and the ebony handles it had were unlike any ebony I'd ev...

Re: 54 Big Jack
It's a great knife. My non - slipjoint EDC knives are almost always larger, and the 54 is basically the same size as my go to carry Emerson mini A100. The slip was something I tossed together to keep them from getting banged up in my pockets

no lie, I had a couple pieces of this really dark brown, tobacco colored bone (was some stuff that I tried to re-dye) that I was tempted to use, just to re-inforce the "cigar" look

Re: Camillus #23
When I picked this up, it was because I remembered seeing that Yellow one Glenn did, and thought "oh, I could totally carry that". Honestly, if I ever found one with the handles in good shape, I'd probably leave it as is - but that plastic they used, at that thickness, just never holds up ...

Re: My Herman Williams Knives
I *finally* managed to score some of Herman's work for my own collection! I happen to check out his Ebay profile the other week and lo and behold, a gorgeous sawcut bone 8OT with a full HW polish job. Just tickled pink to be able to add this to my stockman display. He had an 881 up as well with some...

I like that Purpleheart, that's got some really nice grain to it. I might have to look for some.

Camillus #23
Sometimes bigger is better, right? I've been carrying around a GEC #54 for a couple weeks, then I remembered I had this half finished short line Camillus #23 down in my project bin. I picked it up a year ago on the cheap at a flea-market with the intent to do something with it. Those old "Frenc...

Re: 8OT/881/4" stockman pattern lists
I'm always open to suggestions, Anytime! I mean the criteria I'm using as by no means definitive, I'm making them up on the spot. When I started trying to whittle down my impulse buys to a specific pattern, I realized that there was no such animal as a "list of all the 8OT/881 family" and ...

Re: 54 Big Jack
two spring. The difference in usage is which end the blade pivots on - the 54 I have has both blades pivoting from the same end of the knife. I'm right handed, so usually when opening a knife I hold in my left hand, then pull the blade up and out with my right. When the 2nd blade is on the opposite ...

Re: 8OT/881/4" stockman pattern lists
Associated companies are a weird grey area I'm not entirely sure how to handle yet, even after much thought. I know that the Providence Imperial plant was making knives under various contracts either marked as Schrade or with Schrade's production methodology (i.e. swinden stuff, standard Schrade par...

Re: 54 Big Jack
That 53 is sweet! I bet it's a fair bit thinner than the 2 blade 54's A couple weeks ago I scratched an itch and picked up one of the muslin micarta big jacks from KSF. 20171227_102423.jpg Only gripe is the blades were a bit lazy on the close (getting better with use) and that the secondary blade is...

Re: 8OT/881/4" stockman pattern lists
Good finds, both of you!
I added the SMKW 89OT to the SFO section, and the Imperial to the Associated companies area.
That said, it looks like Google changed their docs format and the sheet no longer views correctly. Working to fix it now.
That imperial is hard to see, what's the handle material?

Re: A small but "focused" collection
Thanks for the kind words everyone! The cases I use for all my knives are made by Southern Star, they make really nice walnut cases here in the USA. I've got a bunch of them Prior to this project "collecting" didn't have a massive appeal to me. I would just buy what snagged my interest at ...
