Case 6380 Whittler--Pure sucker bait

Re: HELP NEEDED Advice on tightening pommel on Marble's Knif

Problem solved. I used a combination of the methods I suggested. The tang sticks out a bit after the final tightening and I doubt if I'll do anything with that. The pictures show final result and also equipment used. The liquid wrench is the secret weapon, I put some on the nut for four or five days...

HELP NEEDED Advice on tightening pommel on Marble's Knife

Hi, I hope some of you AAPK members might be able to help me with a problem that's come up for me. I recently bought a Marble's Buster Brown knife on ebay and the pommel was loose. I'm trying to get it tightened up but have got as far as I can go. The threaded tang of the knife is now sticking out o...

Re: Fixed Blades--How much does the original sheath count?

I have always heard up to 20% the value of the knife... I have saw this hold very true on Marble's knives and sheaths that I have traded over the last 30 yrs Will http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/clearcreekknives Thank you for your post. I tend to agree with the 20% valuation, but it is somethin...

Re: Fixed Blades--How much does the original sheath count?

I sell a few fixed blades, it is my opinion that whatever difference in selling price and there will be some is over shadowed by making the knife infinitely more salable. This is not the same with WW 1 Military knives. I have seen some sheaths alone sell for as much as the knife for it would bring....

Fixed Blades--How much does the original sheath count?

I have been accumulating quite a few fixed blade knives by pre-WW2 American makers. How much does the original sheath help the value of the knife? Please voice your opinion, it is valued. I'm posting some pics of some Case, Remington and Western knives I currently own.

Thank you, Eric

Re: Show off your fixed blades!

Hi, What make is the shotgun? I have never owned a side-by-side; always have wanted a pre-64 Mod. 21 Win. but it would take a barrel of money to buy one now. I grew up and still live in northern Kansas and shot my first stubbleduck when I was nine with a mod. 37 Win .410. It got the the point around...

Re: Counterfeit Knives

Dealing with this cat is real simple. Don't do it. Period. If nobody buys his work, it stops. I just automatically presume that every knife the guy has is fake and don't touch it for any reason. I also have a solution for getting him to stop but I hesitate to voice it in public where it could concei...

Buy one of these it does most of all the common sized ones. http://www.oregonknifeshop.com/marbles-tang-nut-tool.html Thanks Dimitri. I appreciate the link to the supplier. Re: real Winchester?

The whole tang mark is "Winchester" "Trade Mark" "Made in the U.S.A." in three lines. Steve Pfeiffer is correct in that this is an early Winchester, pre-1924 when the marketing association with Simmons started. Most of the early Winchesters did NOT have a pattern number...

Pommel Wrench?? Where to get one??

Hello everybody. I have been picking up quite a few fixed blade knives where I thought they were either cheap or one that fit in my collection (Greenbone Case, pre-WW2). I recently got a Marble's Ideal cheap and the pommel on it is loose to the extent the pommel can be rotated a little less than a q...

Re: When is a pocketknife a "weapon"?

This nonsense is simply more of the 'politically correct' society we seem to have become. I think they're all a bunch of candy-asses. Give somebody a four inch blade pocket knife and give me a ballbat and who's got the best chance? I could rant forever on this but don't need to fire my blood pressur...

Case & Son Lady's Leg Knife

I am confident that this knife has had a blade replaced. And with a poor example of a blade too. The long pull is too wide for the era of the tang stamp. I wrote the seller that it wasn't right and I would appreciate any/all comments from you aapk members about the knife. Thanks, Eric http://cgi.eba...

Re: Love them or hate them.....

To get poetic, Buck Sucks! I've owned both 110s and 112s and once they got dull, which happened surprisingly fast, they were a nightmare to try to get sharpened again. They use absolutely the worst steel in the knife business. Anymore, I use old knives with carbon steel blades. Easy to sharpen and t...

These two came in the mail today. The greenbone one wanted to keep moving on the scanner screen so I used my paperweight to stabilize it.

No. From the tip of the blade to where it meets the handle, on both folders and fixed blade. Any guard is part of the handle. Hope this helps, Eric

Re: Should I clean them or not?

I think the question of to clean or not needs to be judged on a knife-by-knife basis. The more modern knives (like Case XX. 1940-64) are likely improved dollar-wise by cleaning, but I wouldn't clean the older, truly antique knives very much at all; just get any active rust neutralized and eventually...

I have doubts about the knife being legit. I have never seen a pre-1940 Remington that had a liner-lock. Can anybody come up with a book or catalog that shows one of any nature? Re: NYKC Hammer Brand - Blue

I think it likely that the handles are original. I think the knife itself dates 1928-31 when New York Knife Co. was on its last legs and trying to reduce production costs to increase sales and stay afloat. Unfortunately they failed. I wouldn't do anything to the knife at all, but I would try to get ...

From my Knife Library:

Goins Encyclopedia 1st ed., 1986: C.K. Co in a rectangle = Colonial Knife Co. 1933

Re: How to clean an etched blade

Here's an assortment of stuff I use to hand-clean a blade with etch on it. I didn't have a can of Liquid Wrench (the nut & bolt loosener) for the pic, but I'll use it to loosen up the rust at the onset of cleaning. I then work on the rusted areas with the choice of abrasives; steel wool and/or e...

Re: Need Help With This Old Remington Please!

I don't think the knife is right. I haven't seen others with the swirly red/white part of the handle, most are straight but this variation could be original, I just question that swirl to the handle. What really isn't right is the blade, a R3335 had a long pull; and the bail is not a Remington bail,...
