Custom folder with pictures maker unknown
I posted a question about a custom folder a day or so ago. Here are some pictures of the folder. W S is stamped on the front tang and 0 3 is stamped on the back tang. I'm not a custom guy so I don't know what the 0 3 means. I was told the maker is from Texas and possibly from west Texas. Any help on...

I will try and get a picture posted later today. The knife in question is a copy of the Remington 1305.

Custom knife maker question
I recently purchased a custom folder. The maker mark on the knife is W S. I was told W S is or was a Texas knife maker but I can't find any info on that mark. Is there anyone on the forum who might know who the initials belong to. I have no idea if this maker is still making knives. Any help will be...

Re: Need some help
I'm not sure about the following for your Yeats knife. I know he made quality knives and I used to see him at the HGCA shows in Houston. He made a lot of Bowie type knives. Your Marble's Ideal looks like a pre-1940 model. Thanks for the input. Since I posted the pictures I did see where a Yeats bow...

Need some help
I purchased a small collection of fixed blade knives today and I have a lack of knowledge on two of them. The first one is a large custom Bowie made by Joe Yeates of Spring Texas. The knife is excellent quality and I was wondering how collectible his knives are. I think he passed away in 2013 and ha...

Re: $600 ?
The knife is a cobbled piece of crap. The handles are not right and the Case Brothers blade is not right. In my opinion the knife isn't worth 65.00 much less 650.00.

Re: Long Hard look
Someone did a fairly nice job of putting the piece together but it is what it is. I learned a long time ago that buying a knife from an honest man will not guarantee you will get an honest knife. When you buy a knife from someone who believes it is legit and you believe it is legit the truth can be ...

Re: Long Hard look
Cattaraugus did make a wrench knife with a wire stripper blade but it is super rare and most people don't know about it. The wrench knife in the picture,on the left, is an example. The bolsters on the knife are slanted and I have only seen a couple of these knives with slanted bolsters in all of the...

This vintage AD should clear up any questions about the "hoof pick" feature on the tool knife.
The Barnett Tool Company made the knife but they were sold through numerous outlets including Sears Roebuck and Numerous hardware stores.

I see what you are saying about the C and G but why would Barnett tool co. make so many knives stamped J.G. Lewis pat as opposed to J.C Lewis patent?

Question concerning the patent for the Barnett tool knife
When you look at the original patent for the Barnett tool knife J.C. Lewis is the first name you see. However when you read the description of the knife the name James Gatlin Lewis is used. At the end of the description the name J.C. Lewis is used. I always assumed that someone made a mistake on one...

Just one example of what can be hidden in someones collectio
I know the person who owns these knives. He got them from a man in San Francisco whose grandfather was a Case dealer. I don't have a clue as to how many knives he has but I do know he is a high end Case collector. A full display cabinet of Case Tested Knives is hard for some people to believe but I ...

There are a lot of amazing 100 year and older knives but most of them are in the hands of deep pocket collectors.ken98k wrote:Wow! That's an amazing knife for being 100 years old.

Jjust when I thought I was losing interest.
I haven't been motivated to buy anything lately but I got my motivation back when I came across this one. Shows no pocket wear or signs of sharpening. Best one of these I have ever owned.

Re: Cattauragus 1W wrench knife blade not seated
From looking at the pictures my thought is the blade appears to be sitting high because of excessive sharpening. You could file down the "kick" on the main blade a little bit and that would let the blade set deeper in the frame.
