Re: Ulster Old Timer Offers gallery

Amazing ! Super fine examples all, and Bob W are the Schrade Factory knives yours ? Yes. The entire factory collection was parted out and sold on eBay. An interesting, or not, story about my set. The original Ulster 58OT from the set was missing, probably lost in the hustle, and replaced with a sim...

Re: 14OT Wood Handle

A little more information about mine - I went into the safe to look at the knife and records. It has the same leather sheath as Mike's. I purchased it n 2005 from eBay, long before the current off-shore handle jobs started hitting the market. Paid $32 for it, but was once offered a bunch of money fo...

Re: 14OT Wood Handle

I have one exactly like that, purchased as a closeout just after the factory closed. I have no idea of the origin, although it's been suggested it may have once been destined to be a Ducks Unlimited or similar.

Yes, I have an Imperial Apex from 2004. It's made in China and the packaging has the Ellenville, NY address.

The Tradesman scissors were also made in China.

The 881 isn't a good match to the jigging, but those loose scales sure are.

Re: Schrade 8OT - Bone Handle ? - I have never seen one like

On photos I've found of the Walden 881, the jigging looks a bit different.

And if it were just the blade being swapped, I'd say it's just a typical instance of mix-and-matching parts.

But the OT shield in addition to the blade... No one did that on accident. ::shrug::

LOL. I wouldn't pay $14 for that if it came with a brand new knife inside. ::uc::

Re: Schrade 8OT - Bone Handle ? - I have never seen one like

The jigging doesn't look anything like the handles on those Schrade Classics.

My initial impression, those two Old Timers have been re-handled. Second guess, lunchbox specials from someone at Schrade. Third guess... ::shrug::

The red with the China knife and 100 Anniversary on the blade.
Does the red truck packaging have a company address? Does it say Ellenville, or does it mention Taylor?

That one's a Taylor import for sure. The tang stamp is a dead giveaway.

Re: Old Timer 33OT

I haven't seen one like that either, not on a 33OT. The Old Timer Classics also had bolsters like that, but none of those would have been in a compatible size as the 33OT. I'll have to dig through the collection and see I can find a 34OT with those bolsters; those would be compatible with a 33 I thi...

Re: Schrade 8OT Tang Stamps Help

Certainly the SCHRADE NY stamp with 8OT stamped on the pile side are older than ones with 8OT on the third line of the mark side. Seems to be a transition between the Schrade/Walden and Schrade / NY USA tang stamps. My guess, they were made for only a very short time, and I do not have one in the c...

Re: Three Schrades

Nice knives there too. Can you or anyone tell me if the old timer folders came with different scales than the ones in the pictures? The standard Old Timer material was "brown sawcut Delrin." But there were many other handle materials as well. You might find all sorts of handle materials a...

Re: old timer 125ot

Agree about the value. Since it's used the shield probably doesn't make much difference anyway. And for $25 it's good price regardless, as long as it's in good useable condition. If it's physically broken or worn to the point that's no longer functional, then it's $25 too much.

Re: 72ot shield

A heavily worn 72OT... would make a good user for $5. It was most likely a Compliments knife. Those had the beaded shield, and the 72OT was used as a Compliments knife in 1987. The beaded shields were also used on several different special editions and anniversary knives over the years, but the 1987...

Re: Help me find an very nice Old Timer

Just some ideas of what to look for. The Old Timer Classics was a nice set with bone handles. They were sold as individual knives, or as a framed set. Fairly common on eBay, although most listed now are at outrageous prices - usually $50-$80 is the going rate. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v287/...

I collect Old Timer knives, and that is a very interesting example of their use as advertising / promotional items. Hard to see exactly from your pictures, but the knife appears to have been used and sharpened. If so, it's probably most valuable as a user in your pocket. ::tu::
