Re: Said goodbye to an old friend yesterday...
You post stirred up some memories for me. I rescued a kitten out of the middle of the road one day. She was a tortise shell that could sit in my hand at the time. Had her for 13 years before chronic renal failure finally took her out- I had to rush her to the vet to get her put down. Best pet buddy ...

Re: Storage Solutions
I've used plastic tackle boxes like Plano 3600 or 3700 that stack and have adjustable dividers on them. Your can get nylon cases that hold four or five of these boxes. Fairly inexpensive and accessible.

Re: Three Fine Fakes
If a buyer knows a knife is a fake and buys it anyway for whatever purpose, that's his right. But he should take every precaution to ensure it does not get resold to an unsuspecting buyer down the line. I think buying fake knives enables those who sell them to remain in the marketplace which is detr...

Re: A good pocketknife read
My old pocket knives are one of the last remaining links to days gone by. I can't remember a time I was without one. I'm now trying to impart some knife wisdom upon the three grandboys, 6, 11, and 14 years old. Only the youngest has yet to receive a knife from me.

I own four Schrade medium stockmans, 34OT I think. The only one with a less than vigorous snap is the one that came opened in a combo kit with a Sharpfinger. It had been stored with the blades open for a number of years. You guys that say it makes no difference may be right, but I won't store or dis...

Re: Work Sharp for pocket knives?
Great sharpener to have on hand if you have several knives in line to sharpen. If I only have one or two I'll go with my stones. It does a fine job, but there is a learning curve to get the best out of it. It is super for larger blades but for me, a little sketchy for smaller blades, like a pen knif...

I've had a Leatherman PSTII (since discontinued) for several years that I use for fishing and camping. No complaints. One of the few with needle nose pliers for fishing and a diamond hook hone. Also have a Gerber Fisherman which is not quite as tough but still ok for fishing/camping. I can tell you ...

Non-stainless requires a bit on maintenance, plain and simple. Even then, you might get a spot or two. Nature of the beast. My favorite steel, next to older Case carbon steel, it Old Timer. I've got some old ones with a natural patina that look awesome. Great steel to work with and sharpen. Glad I'v...

My "everyday" inexpensive bourbon is Evan Williams Black Label. For my better stuff I go to Buffalo Trace, Eagle Rare 10-Year Old, and Knob Creek. Still like Beam and Maker's enough to have some on hand periodically. I'm a sipper, on the rocks in a short rocks glass. A little melting ice o...

I went back to a Zippo for camping. Just nicer to whip out the Zippo and flick open the cover and fire it up. Has more style. Sure they're a bit inconvenient, but I like the old school feel.

Re: What's Currently on Your Reading List?
Man I've read so many books over the years I can't remember. All I know is there's a heckuva lot I have yet to read. I read most of the classic sci-fi in high school. Focused on history books for most of my years. Read most of the spy classics. Recently I took a break from non-fiction and got into C...

Clothes- Pick up stuff if I happen to see something I need on sale when trailing the little woman around the mall, which is infrequent at best. Shoes and boots- Bean, Chippewa, Cabela's, Sperry, various athletic. I don't wear jeans much anymore. Found BDU.com and buy very good quality cargo pants in...

I've got an old Explorer (Japanese 440A) 3.5 inch drop point fixed blade with a rubber handle that goes on all camping trips. Sharp as all get out, nearly indestructible, perfect size for the belt, and easy to handle when wet. I probably paid 10 bucks for it but it's been so long I don't remember. A...

I'm just happy that they weren't from WV. We get enough bad press. We've certainly got no monopoly on dumb rednecks.

Re: First Pocket Knife...What was it?
I bought some off-brand stockman with a plastic handle off a display card at my local grocery/hardware store (same place I used to buy those rolls of twine with the little wooden bobber attached with which I would make my own fishing pole) when I was 8 or 10 years old. My local dentist traded me out...

Just ask any fighter jock who spent time in the "Hanoi Hilton" what they think of her. Sums it up. I believe she even refused or turned in guys who attempted to get her to smuggle out messages. Pathetic excuse for an American.

Wow, that sounds scary. I hope your healing goes quickly. Whenever I take on any project I ask myself THE QUESTION: How can what I am about to do hurt, or worse, kill me? Doesn't always work but I ain't dead yet.

Truly an amazing story. I read the book of the same title many years ago remember it sounding like a terrifying experience. The F-8 is known as the "Last of the Gunfighters" and was a darn fine combat aircraft.
