Re: Uncle Henry 897UH Serial Numbers

So its amazing what a little research can do, i.e. digging through the Archives here. In a post from Codger_64 on the 04-02-2008, titled, 'The new/old 897UH', he presents a knife he just got with the specs. SCHRADE WALDEN ....N.Y. U.S.A. ....STAINLESS and the pattern number 897UH stamped on the pile...

Re: Uncle Henry 897UH Serial Numbers

Thank you Dale for that informative response. I agree that logic may not be the best approach when dealing with Schrade and also that I had not considered the 'maybes' that you proposed; I must have got blinded by the prospect of being able to narrow down a date. As you suggested, the production of ...

Re: Uncle Henry 897UH Serial Numbers

Let me rephrase that, 'My SW897' is only the shorthand I used in the above post to say, 'My Schrade Walden Uncle Henry 897'. The knife does not actually have the model number stamped on the tang.

Uncle Henry 897UH Serial Numbers

I have posted here before about the Uncle Henry serial numbers though receintly I purchased a Schrade Walden 897UH which has led me to another piece of the Schrade puzzle (I hope). Stay with me while I throw some numbers around. My SW897 is numbered 91483, my S+897 is numbered 94578 that is only a d...

Re: When is a pocketknife a "weapon"?

I have never considered my Pocket Knife a weapon. I have carried a Pocket Knife for about 45 years and a couple of years back when someone told me I couldn't carry anymore (Australia) because they are considered a weapon, at first, I didn't believe them. Then I started to think, OK, my slip joint St...

Re: A few old knives

Hi Willy - Love the knives. The Othello is interesting, I have a set of three throwing knives that are very similar. I bought them in the early eightys (in Aust.), Widdes Soligen Germany, 8 1/4" (210mm) overall length, 4 5/8" (120mm) blade length. The guards (quillions) I filed down flush ...

Re: Name that Riggers knife.....

You got a great deal on the Uncle Henry Bear Paw, great knives. The 'Riggers' knife is a WWII British Army Clasp Knife. The S.S.P. stands for Sheffield Steel Products. That's about all I know off hand but I'm sure more of the story could be uncovered.

Chinese Finger Torture

I collect traditional folders, carbon steel blades and bone handles and I'm in heaven. I don't have any tactical knives/folders, until now. I saw this little knife on the net and thought it would be a bit of fun, a novelty; for only $8.99 including postage from Hong Kong, I couldn't loose. (Except m...

Any clues about this knife

I picked this up a few months ago but haven't been able to figure out what it is. Anybody have any idea? It is a 4 3/16" four blade congress, bone handles, brass scales; handle pins are: one main brass and two smaller 'nickle silver'; blades and springs are carbon steel. There are no markings o...

Re: Sorry I asked

I have bought a few knives off ebay from the USA and also from France, for shipment to Australia. Whilst looking on ebay, if the seller says NO INTERNATIONAL - fair enough, I don't bid, if they don't specify, and I really like the knife, I'll PM them and most folk are very obliging. I haven't yet en...

Thanks guys - that's great info - and with pictures too. Some beautiful mint SW UHs with packaging, I can only dream.
P.S. The 885UH is my preferred EDC.

Uncle Henrys pre 1973

Has anyone got a pre 1973 Uncle Henry.
I'm wondering if the SCHRADE WALDEN Tang Stamp was used on those.

Uncle Henry Serial Numbers

The Uncle Henry knives were 'Guaranteed against loss, for one full year', from when they were introduced (1967) right up untill factory close. The 897UH was the first introduced (1967) and each knife was given an individual serial number, from there the UH line increased, (the 1969 catalogue lists f...

Another WireJack

I bought this knife a little while back. The knife is almost identical to a Geo. Schrade Pat. 9-21-26 (see singin46's latest post 'Wire Jack' and pics) but there is no makers mark on the knife. One side of the tang says Stainless Steel, so the knife is obviously newer than the Schrade and on the oth...

OK - learning something now. I gather a 'Moose' is like a Muskrat but with a clip and either a spey or spear blade. Are they known by any other names?

PS - Great knives!

Not knowing what a Stanhope Micro whatsit is it took me a while to figure out what these guys actually do. (The sites not all that clear for the uninitiated.) Would be a nice gift.

Re: Schrade with no #

Thanks hawk - that bit of information, and a little bit of net slogging has led me on a merry chase. Apparantly the knife is a Schrade 296WC, Birch Handles (Crimson Birch), Trapper. It seems that it may have been sold only by Walmart in the early 2000's - at least the only people (I have found) that...

OK - Mabey this would work better using an old Case or a shiny new GEC .... but the little buggers will get you somewhere down the line.
