Re: Double Wharncliffe?

Just a question ? Is it common to have only one of the four blades have a different nail nick? Looks like you have 3 long pulls & 1 nail nick. ?

Re: New Case

The missing dot was intentional. It means your Peanut is either a 2001 or 2011 model. I'm not up on Case tamp stamps, but they remove a dot or an X each year for that decade. Starting with 10 dots or in this case 5 dots & 5 X's equal 2000 or 2010.

Re: To EDC or not to EDC, that is the question. Why or not?

I've always carried some sort of EDC. Why - my grandfather & dad always said you need something to 1. write with, 2. light with (matches), and 3. fight with. I don't think either of them actually meant anything about fighting with a pocket knife - that's ridiculous. But it all does ryhme...

Re: Pics from a non-whittler

You can definetly whittle with those or just make little shavings from a stick. I'm sure you know this but those knives are not technically whittlers - they're stockmans.

Make sure you seal them good & put them on a line & throw them in the water to see how they pull / move ? Looks good to me!!!

Re: hammer-ny knife..made for Belknap hdw

I have a few Belknap branded barlows & I've never come across the 'I-DL' bolster stamp. I'm not saying it isn't what you say it is - just unusual to me. Can you share the info where you found that ? I'd like to add it to my own source info. thanks for sharing.

Re: Barlow Identification

Being that it has a partial 'Japan' stamp, I'd bet it's probably a Sabre brand. Still, a decent user & if you want to try your hand replacing the scales - there you go. You already have the beginnings of a project.

Looks Familiar, but what is it ?

I picked this up at an antique tool booth in Springfield, OH last weekend. It doesn't have any markings other than: Pat'd Mar 19 1847. The end cap screws or pulls the gromet tight to keep whatever it holds. It appears to be cast iron in make & the threads are machine made. It currently holds a W...

Isn't that Parker a liner-lock ? And I would not remove the etch - just my personal opinion.

Re: Someone educate me please ..... pinched bolsters ????

I haven't actually looked at the knife (blocked from work) but pinched bolsters have a semi-round divot removed from the very end of the bolster. I guess it's supposed to be kinda like if you took your thumb & index finger & pinched the very end of the bolster - it's where your fingers would...

Not to make any corrections but you've only got two Whittler's in your pictures. They are the top two knives of your middle picture. ::undecided::

I've seen those too. I've always thought they were seconds but I don't have any facts behind that assumption. ::hmm::

It is kind of funny that the most simple answer - if you think it may have been made by Bear & Sons, go ask them. And it is something anybody rarely does (me included). I like the pearl Cheeta.

Re: Can you date this Belknap pocketknife?

Take a look at the reverse side of the tang & if there is a STAR - it was made by Boker. Belknap / Primble did not make their one knives but had them made under contract by a couple of knife firms.

I have two stag handled Belknap Barlows as well as two stag Primble's.

Re: Boker 9229?????

Your knife was also referred to as a 'linemans' knife. Try googling TL-29, as already stated, just about every knife company made one or a version of one. Here's one that had the blade snapped off that I refurbished into a whittling knife (the one on the bottom).

Some of the 'imports' have a country of origin sticker or on the box that can get 'accidently' removed.

BBarn, you are talking about the Thursday night auctions, what Dale is asking about is something totally different. Dale, I dont think enough members actually know about. ;) Yes, I'm referring to the auction. I've never used that function he originally talked about, so I just mentioned the auction.

I've never used the function you are referring to but I have signed on their weekly knife auction - every Thursday at 8pm est. The rules are fairly simple - you set the starting price & bids must increase by $2.50 & you say if shipping is included or not and it simply goes from there (or not...

And here I always thought the Congress got it's name because it looks like capital hill - the house's on each end & the dome in the middle (well sort of). And the senator because it was half of number of blades of the congress. So much for what I know ::shrug::
