Re: Rob Klaas Missing Cranes?
It's an older Klaas barlow knife. Kissing Crane was founded in 1834. It was a separate company and then merged with Klaas in 1869 to become the Robert Klaas Company through the marriage of two people from the families of both. Klaas registered the Kissing Crane logo and trademark in 1895. Kissing C...

Re: Rob Klaas Missing Cranes?
Goins' Encyclopedia indicates that the Robert Klass firm was founded in 1834 and the stamp with kissing cranes dates to 1896, so I think it is possible that your knife was made before 1896. Nice find! ::tu:: ::tu:: Thanks for the info, that has been about as far as I could determine as well... oddl...

Rob Klaas Missing Cranes?
Sorry for the terrible pun but I recently took a gamble on this gnarly old Rob. Klaas barlow because I love old bone handled barlows and this was available at a good price. However, I'm a bit stumped when trying to find info on this model as A: there are no Kissing Cranes or cranes at all on this kn...

Re: Any info on this old long pull large swell end jack?
Hi your knife is a 6231. Should be 3-3/4" long closed. That one is likely from the WWII era and may be a military contract knife. Awesome, thanks so much for the info! That model and size seems right. He was a Captain on a bomber in WWII so maybe he carried it in service. That just adds more t...

Thanks! Yeah it's pretty cool handling this thing knowing he carried and used it daily. And he did a pretty good job of sharpening it too! No weird wonky grinds or angle grinder gouges lol.

Any info on this old long pull large swell end jack?
This was my grandfather's knife, tang stamp dates 1920-1940 but I'm having a hard time finding much info on this exact model. It's a fairly large swell end jack with a longpull spear blade and what might have once been a spey or pen secondary blade. One thing that stands out as kind of odd to me is ...

Sweet EDCs, Ausegbombt. ::tu:: How old do you think that Tidioute is? Thanks Rider! That is the Tidioute Boy's Knife... got that right around Christmas. It was building up a really nice natural patina till I dribbled acid on the blade by accident the other day. Couldn't stand the jet black on the n...

Re: #15 Sawyer Barlow & Huckleberry Boys Knife
Most GEC knives i own came with great grinds and very consistent edges but always needed just a little work... Which i dont mind. However, my sawcut amber bone sawyer barlow came with a HAIR POPPING, razor sharp edge. I dont know if a different person than usual did the sharpening but this thing wil...

Re: To EDC or not to EDC, that is the question. Why or not?
I carry every single knife I own. Whether its a Case, GEC, some off brand turd, Rough Rider, old beat up buck... they all have their place. No, my Case raindrop-damascus, stag canoe does not go with me to work but I do carry it on social outings, use it in my studio, and for other small tasks. I jus...

Ok really not trying to sound like an ass but my thumb was the first way i tried opening it and it works great... I thought thats how you were supposed to do it. I believe this inclination might be because i am a smoker and that motion and grip is very similar to striking a lighter. I for one LOVE m...
