Re: Can't make out stamp???

Thanks for showing me what it is SUPPOSED to look like, Ray. Great looking knife you got there! ::groove:: I don't think I'm going to get a blade etch like that no matter how hard I try. I'll be satisfied if I get it looking 1/4 as good as yours. Check out the tang kick on the pic I posted... ...

Re: New Mechanic

Good start to a very addictiong hobby, Steel. ::tu:: attaboy  Never heard of that name brand before??? Most likely made on contract by one of the large manufactures. Search thru the mechanics topics and you will find a list of suppliers for pin material. It's pretty cheap but the shipping c...

Re: Can't make out stamp???

Thanks for the info, fellers! ::tu:: You guys are good!!! ::nod::

This knife is a bit of a relic but I didn't have a Schlieper brand in my "stamp collection"
so I went ahead and got it. It was cheap.

Guess I'll have to wait til it gets here to see if it will clean up.

Can't make out stamp???

Ran across this in a new listing but can't quite make out the stamp.
Seller can't make out the stamp either.

All I can tell is it is "_ _ _LL _ _" over "GERMANY." Looks like there are a couple of "L's"
in the middle????

Anyone dare to guess?

Thanks, Joe

Great input guys!

Notice that they referenced to the shields as "name plates."

These were original ads I ran across and copied from that
auction site and posted... - "for educational purposes only." ::paranoid::

1917 Walden Knife Co. "How It's Made!"

I stumbled across a couple of 1917 ads for E.C. Simmons and there supplier; the Walden
Knife Company.

I thought these were pretty interesting as one page shows how there Keen Kutter knives
are made from start to finish!

Enjoy!

Hi Riverside! Welcome to the forum! ::dang:: As for the "old two penny trick" you can throw that out the window. The geometry is/can be VERY inconsistent. I did not read the whole article and don't know if anyone called him out on it. ::shrug:: The match book at 15 degrees will work well f...

Schrade Cut Co. pen

Hay folks! I'm back at it again... Looking for a decent pen blade for a 3 3/8" Schrade Cut. Co. This has gotta be some of the worst grinder rash I've seen and it's on a really nice knife! The tang thickness is .079" I've traced the tang shape from another project I've got goin on. The pen ...

Scott, that black "glass" looking stone looks an heck of a lot like the carbide honing sticks we used in the machine shop. ::nod:: We used them to touch up or "knock the new off" turning tools for lathes. Can't be certain about that without having it in hand though. Glad it sold ...

Very nice shinny job, Gary!
I DO prefer the patina But I still clean the handles just to see
what kind of wood they are under all the oil form handling over the years.

Re: Need Piece Of 1/4'' NS

Thanks, Glenn, but I need to mill the slot in the bolster to clear the latch mechanism. The 11/64" (.172") piece of stock, when clearance milled, will only leave me with .030" wall thickness that will most likely crush while in the vice jaws. So I want to stick with .250" to prev...

Very nice job, Scott! Very useable knife now. ::nod::
You would never know it used to be a hawk bill.
That jigged wood handle is still an oddity - never seen jigged wood before!

Re: Some flea market finds-Worry about "Gassing"?

The shell handle Imperials don't gas for some reason!? They'll shrink up away from the bolsters though. The yellow Colonial has plastic on it - no worries there. Can't tell what the small yellow one is? The tip bolster Imperial is defiantly celluloid. That's the one I would isolate from the others. ...
