No new images Rare Folding Knife

Here we have a wire framed old folding hunter. Made like the game getter gun stock adapter. I have shown this to several knife collectors and we all think it is a Marbles product. The markings have been ground down on the tang, 4 ½ inches closed. It is made very strong, not a weak design, blade locks into positions very tight and and strong.. a skeleton type frame, a very rare knife. One in a million, never seen one; how about you? Information is accepted. Believed to be Marbles 1900s era.

No new images Stag Antler Patch Knife with Leather Grip

This is an antler handled knife. The owner picked up approximately 20 years ago at a flea market. The knife has a carbon steel blade that is approximately 4 1/2" long by 1 1/4" at the widest point and has a heavy brass guard tapered at each end.
When he got the knife he put a leather wrap around the handle and stitched it with cotton thread. It provides a very unique look as well as making it very confortable to grip. I picked it up for $27.00. I like it, it's different looking.

No new images 1872 Sterling Silver MOP pocket fruit knife - Thomas Marples

1872 Sterling Silver MOP pocket fruit knife - Thomas Marples

The hallmarks on the blade are:
City Mark: Castle (hard to tell) - Sheffield
Year Mark: E - 1872
Country Mark: Lion - England
Duty Mark: Lady's Profile - Queen Victoria
Maker's Mark: TM - Thomas Marples
Approx. Size folded is 2.5" x 0.5"
Length when open is approx. 4.25"
Blade length is approx. 1.75"

Thomas Marples was the younger brother of John Marples (supra), and was born in Sheffield in about 1833. How he started in cutlery isn’t known, but he did so right at the start of the career. He appears in the 1851 census, aged 19, when he was described as a fruit knife cutler. He produced lovely fruit knifes made out of solid silver with mother of pearl handles, sometimes ornately carved. They can frequently found on eBay, the online auction website. Thomas died childless in 1912 and so the business came to an end trading under his name. It was probably taken over by his wife's nephew, William Jackson who appeared as a silver fruit knife maker and was living with Thomas in the 1881 census.

No new images 1874 Sheffield Hallmarked Mother of Pearl Fruit Knife By Thomas Marples

1874 Sheffield Hallmarked Mother of Pearl Fruit Knife By Thomas Marples

By the hallmarks it would appear to be from 1874. the Mother of Pearl handle has nice engraving and there is even engraving along the side of the handle. The blade has only a very slight bend about 3/4 of an inch from the tip. The knife closed measures almost 3 1/2 inches and open measures 6 inches. Hallmarks are a crown, a lion, a G and a young Queen Victoria. The silversmith's initials are T.M into a cut corners rectangle (Thomas Marples).

No new images ANTIQUE AMERICAN KNIFE CO PLYMOUTH WOODEN HAND (Civil War ?)

ANTIQUE CIVIL WAR ERA AMERICAN KNIFE CO PLYMOUTH WOODEN HANDLE POCKET KNIFE. This very old pocket knife was made by the American Knife Company in Plymouth sometime between 1849-1875. The handle is wood, and the knife blade is in really great shape for being over 150+ years old. There is no rust on the blade, and it appears to have been well taken care of. The wooden handle is smooth from years of being carried in someone's pocket. There are some indentations and a small split on the wooden handle, but they look like they are original or have been there a very long time. Either way, they certainly add a lot of character to this wonderful piece of the past. Who knows whether it belonged to some soldier fighting in the Civil War? It is stamped on the blade "AMERICAN KNIFE CO. PLYMOUTH", and measures 6-3/8 inches long opened up, and 3-3/4 inches long closed.
