Rapid River Knives

Established in the spring of 2002, Rapid River Knifeworks seems pre-destined to become the next great producer of high quality custom knives. When someone asks, "were you born in a barn?" they can truly say yes. Partners Scott Honkonen and Kris Duerson set up their first shop in the barn of Rick Duerson (Kris' father) just north of Rapid River, MI. With a lot of skill, a few pieces of machinery and some really big dreams, the guys developed a line of custom knives that combine beauty with strength and practical usability. They were confident that sportsmen and women would respond favorably to a line of high quality hunting and fishing knives that you can really use in the field without sacrificing the great looks of a knife you’d be proud to display on your mantle.

Boy, were they right! Response to the products was immediate, widespread and overwhelmingly favorable. So much so that less than six months later, it was time to move into a bigger location. So, Rapid River Knifeworks went up town. Up town Rapid River, that is. Now, with a retail location on US 2 and four employees in the shop, Rapid River Knifeworks is a great American success story. In addition to the their popular "line" of knives, Rapid River Knifeworks now makes dozens of one-of-a-kind custom knives every week and is currently working on new models that add more variety to the "line" of knives offered in large quantities to high profile dealers.

So confident are they that their knives will stand the test of time, Scott and Kris established a warranty policy that covers each and every knife they build. With over two thousand knives built and sold in the first year of the company, they have yet to have their first warranty claim.

More Details

Here is one of the early knives that came out of the Rapid River Knife Co. folk's...just around the corner from Marble's in Michigan's Golden Triangle in the UP.....here is the scoop on how this particular knife came about: Rapid River contacted Marble's back in 1999 during the Stewart/Lauerman era about buying some of these blades from them.....this blade is 52/100 bladesteel that was put in Marble's Sport 99's & LoveLess Sport knives...they purchased a small amount of these and turned them into Custom knives such as this one right here...52/100 steel took several top prizes in the ABS sponsored USA Cuttting Championships....here is the rest of the info I have on this piece:

I purchased over a dozen knives from an estate of a 92 year old fella that had passed....he did not use or carry any of the knives in his collection, but, he always took a stone on all his knives and put his own edge on em...so, this knife has been sharpened once, but never used and never carried...

This is the Rapid River Stag Drop Point Hunter

Knife is 8 1/4" OAL

Blade is 4" and made of 52/100 steel

Knife is stamped: Rapid River Knives U.S.A.

Handle is just over the top 1 piece Genuine Stag...look at the pics close-up, just deep grooves with tons of character, top shelf piece of Stag to say the least

Knife comes with a truly "Unique" style oil tanned leather sheath that you just do not ever see the way it is made... its a holster type sheath and the way its cut is really unique....it comes with the sharpening stone pouch on the front and the stone is Included

Whole package comes in original Rapid River box before they got the graphics on it

Read the above text for condition: sharpened once, but never used or carried

Please supersize pics on the next page for a cose-up look at this gorgeous Stag Hunter
