This handy tool is one I make patterned after a tool that came from the Camillus cutlery factory after they closed. At Camillus they referred to this tool as a "knife vise." This tool is used to compress the backsprings of a slip joint so you can reassemble the knife much easier, without needing three hands. I have a tutorial on how to use this tool posted at: http://www.allaboutpocketknives.com/knife_forum/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=10069 The tutorial has far more pictures than I can post on this listing. It also explains how to use the tool.
The version I am currently making has micarta pieces on either side to hold the knife instead of metal pieces. This helps to prevent scratching the knife.
