This classic Buck 315 Rigging knife comes with an Unusual History of world travel on a Soviet Submarine. The knife is a pre-1985 Buck Rigging knife tang stamped BUCK USA 315. Due to its unique history I was compelled to Immortalize it. I removed the back spring and file worked both the back spring and blade then fitted it with Siberian Mammoth Ivory Handle scales. I then Scrimshawed a Sea Serpent(to represent the Submarine it was carried on) and an Air Craft carrier as the serpent's intended victim on 1 side. The opposite side is Scrimshawed with the Number of the Sub and scrollwork. The blade and bolsters were lightly buffed in the process. I was careful not to remove the original markings or blemishes that I felt were part of it's unique history. You can still see the marking K-132 on the blade and a lightly scratched W on a bolster put there by the soviet Submariner who originally carried it around the world both above and below the world's Oceans. The box is made from a solid piece of Honduran Red Mahogany salvaged from a 1940 Elco Motor Yacht. The interior is carved out specifically for this knife. There is an Ivory Inlay on the top of the box also scrimshawed with the Sea Serpent. This knife was carried, but has full blade and few signs of actual use.How it got into the Soviet Navy and back to the USA is only one of many stories this piece could tell if it could speak. The Knife is back in The USA were it was made and due to federal Ivory Export laws will stay here as Ivory cannot be Exported out of the U.S.A. NOW TO THE HISTORY OF THE SUB!! Much information on this incredible war machine is still classified. I did find out it is named the IRKUTSK.It was launched at the end of the Soviet era in 1985 and put into service in the Soviet Pacific fleet in 1986. It is a APKR 1st class Nuclear Submarine ( no photos are available).. A large version of the OSCAR. It measures 155 meters long and carries a crew of 107.It is propelled with twin shafts powered by steam turbine engines and 2 Nuclear Reactors that deliver 98,000 SHP ( submerged Horsepower). The sub has an incredible submerged speed of 32 knots. It is a LARGE guided missile submarine that was designed to strike surface forces, especially Air Craft Carriers. Its arsenal of weapons is still classified, as is much of the information on it.The scrimshaw is hand engraved Scrimshaw it is signed and comes with a certificate of authenticity and providence.
