This is one of the very first Weidmannshiels Jim Parker had made.
Most of these early ones were made with spare parts found at the old Weltersbach factory.
These early Weidmannsheils have a tang stamp that's different from all other Parker Weidmannsheils.
It consists of a fairly crude drawing of a stag's head with the words WEIDMANNS HEIL SOLINGEN GERMANY.
Later Weidmannsheils either had the stag's head as seen on this knife's shield, or a boar's head.
Like many earlier Weidmannsheils, the blade is not polished.
The scales are European red stag, along with brass liners, and nickel silver pins, bolsters and shield.
To be honest, this knife is a bit more rustic than the later Weidmannsheils.
The fit and finish is not what knife buyers have come to expect from this brand.
The spring is a little lazy, but the blade locks up well.
It's still a well-made knife, but it doesn't really measure up to the quality of later Weidmannsheils.
This is a real piece of cutlery history, given the eventual esteem bestowed upon the Weidmannsheil brand by cutlery collectors.
Very, very few of these Weltersbach/Parker Weidmannsheils were ever made, and they rarely go up for sale.
This knife has never been used, carried or sharpened, and ships with the original box.
