New York Knife Co, HAMMER BRAND, circa 1880’s to 1932. 3-3/8” closed senator penknife, “birdseye” rivets. Both blades are full, look unsharpened, tarnished, specks. Both have strong snap with ½ stops, no wobble.

 

Fine old brown bone handles, one tight hard to see hairline at the lower edge.

HART CUTLERY COMPANY NEW YORK, 5-1/2” folding hunter. Looks like a contract knife by New York Knife Co. Jigged brown bone handles. Used, sharpened some, minor blade loss, patina. Opens up and locks fine. A great old knife with character!! 

Two hairline pin cracks, one on each side at the handle pins near the lower bolster.

Both master and manicure blades have good open and close snap. Small pen blade has good close snap, is slow with just a little snap on open but does lock in position. Ebony handles with no issues. Overall very good + condition.

WALLKILL RIVER WORKS WALDEN N.Y. closed back whittler by New York Knife Co. measures 3 5/16" closed. All blades are marked and have good open and closing snap with exception of master blade that does have spring tension but is slow on opening only. Mottled green, black and orange celluloid handles with no cracks or crazing. c. 1921 -1930 according to Goin's book. Uncommon knife and harder to find in a 3 balde closed back whittler pattern.

TOTAL NUMBER OF KNIVES :  1

MAKER :   Hammer Brand by New York Knife Co.

PATTERN :   2018, Elephant Toenail

CLOSED LENGTH :   4 1/4 inches long.

HANDLES :   Jigged bone and there is a crack at the center pin on the front side.

TANG STAMPS :   On the master blade, the mark side tang is stamped Hammer Brand with the strong-arm logo and most of it is covered up.  On the secondary blade, mark side, the tang is stamped NEW YORK (over) KNIFE CO. (over) WALDEN and I'm sure there is more but it is covered up. The tang on the pile side is stamped 2018.

CONDITION :   The blades are patinaed and there is some stain.  The master blade sits a little proud.  This knife has had the loose dirt taken off and not much more. 

BOX:   None

DAMAGE :   Tight pin crack, per above. 

AGE :   1856 to 1931

COUNTRY OF ORIGIN :   USA

BLADE WEAR :   Minimal to none.

SHIELD AND BLADE ETCH :   There is a badge type or federal shield and no visible etch.

SNAP :   Excellent on both blades, opening and closing. 

ADDITIONAL INFO :     I will deliver this knife to you in the USA by Priority Mail for $995.00.
